Primary care may not be a term you are familiar with. To explain, primary care is the healthcare you have on a day to day basis. This person is typically referred to as your primary doctor and they are your touchpoint person for recommending other healthcare options for specific issues and concerns.

Primary care is significant because it is your routine checkups and visits that will help you stay on top of your health and hopefully treat or prevent any illnesses before it gets too serious. It is recommended ‘that routine physical exams are generally recommended once a year if you’re over the age of 50, and once every 3 years if you’re younger than 50 and in good health. If you have a chronic disease or other ongoing health issues, you should see your doctor more often, no matter how old you are.’

By going to your doctor for regular checkups, you can keep yourself more healthy with preventative care.

That being said, “about 40 percent of Americans report skipping a recommended medical test or treatment and 44 percent say they didn’t go to a doctor when they were sick or injured in the last year because of cost. That’s a really big amount of people.”

Although personal opinions may vary, we at Target Patients MD think that it is very important to go to your routine checkups. It may be very scary to go to a doctor, especially if you feel that something might be wrong, but life is short and you should always take care of yourself and your health however you can, no matter how old or young you are.

One of Target Patients MD’s Primary Care clients is Mountaineer Family Medicine. If you like their website and digital presence, work with us today to get your primary care office up to our amazing standard!
